Title: Artist, Artist in the City, City in the Artist
|
ProcessPainting for me isn't one of the things I enjoy most, if I had to choose between sketching or painting I would choose sketching without hesitation. My first idea (picture in the middle) was to use a mask with my eyes visible and the background would be black with vivid splattered paint. The second sketch (on the left) at first I wanted to paint my profile, but after thinking it through I decided to go with my hands instead. The last sketch (on the right) presents modern high rise, multi-coloured buildings.

Artist
I used a mask from Venice to cover my face leaving only my eyes, I wanted to symbolically show how it is when I meet a person for the first time, I don't open myself to them. You can't read me like an open book. The splattered paint on the background represents the true me. After I get to know a person I open up to them, I'm more outgoing etc. My artist inspiration for this piece is "The Son of Man" by René Magritte. He used the apple to cover the man's face and I used the mask to cover up my face (leaving my eyes).
Artist in the City
I wanted to show how artists live in every city. You can see art with each step you walk through places, especially graffiti on buildings. With my art work I represented big, modern office buildings that are painted in multiple colours. The people that build the buildings are also artists, they create a "canvas" later for other artists to design the interior and the exterior colours. I wanted to show how we all are artists in our own way. Many people bring colour to the city, even the people that put the white lines on the road, creating cross walks for people. They add the colour white into our city. And also people with style,, that stand out or wear colour clothes, they become an accessory to their city. My artist inspiration for this is an organization called "The Favela Painting Project". It is an organization that started in Rio de Janerio, in one of the poorest cities in Brazil. They decided to bring happiness and help create a more positive attitude to the residents in this very poor area by painting their homes and streets with bright bold colours and illustrations.
City in the Artist
Hands represent how the city builds me. How every person, surroundings and community build us as a person. We learn from the people around us. With every mistake we make, next time hopefully we won't repeat it but learn from it so we can live a better life. The colourful pieces that built the hands represent how the community builds me. Some spaces are blank on the hand because they are about to be built, a new experience is about to come around and shape us and fill in the blank spaces. Down at the bottom there are pieces formed to fit into our hand yet to be put into our puzzle. The bandages symbolize the mistakes we make and are being repaired by us. My artist inspiration for this work is Pablo Picasso, he is known for being one of the founders of Cubism. The painting that inspired me by Picasso is " Girl with a Madolin". He used shapes to paint his work, I did the same with my hands.
