Collecting PiecesThe first thing I did was to make my own clay. We had two buckets in our classroom with dry clay and wet clay. We had a machine that combines the two clay's together creating a perfect piece of clay. We also were provided tools to help us work the clay. Lastly we could decorate our clay and fire it in the kettle.

Work
After digging out a good amount of dry and wet clay I put it into the machine letting it do its own work. When the clay came out of the machine it was ready to be shaped into my design. It took me a long time to finish this project, mainly because the drying process took the longest. I started to shape an egg like structure leaving an opening at top. I used water as glue to stick the pieces of clay where I needed them to be. After waiting about 5 days for the clay to dry I gave my teacher the clay and she fired it in the kiln. After that I decided to add a plant so I selected a green vine. I attached the vine using super glue.

Meaning
With this artwork I wanted to show our lives. The egg shape sculpture symbolizes life, the day we and animals are born. The egg represents us and our life. The little bumps, not smooth surface on the outside as well as inside of the clay represents the mistakes we make in life, the decisions we made that hurt others, the words we said that turn people away from us. We are all born with a bad side to us, we have to make mistakes in order to learn from them and not repeat them again. The vine represents us learning and growing from our mistakes, it's the light in our darkness.
Inspiration
My artist inspiration for this artwork is a Spanish sculpture and ceramics artist, Alberto Bustos. The work that inspired me to do mine piece is his clay sculpture on the right, I was especially inspired by the green vegetation. In his work the green-tipped shoots represents life, how it grows and develops over time. The shoots take on a life of their own as they sprout outwards in a simple expression of life and growth. When I saw the green, I knew I wanted to do something similar that is why I added the vine.
