Title:"Gluttony"
|
Collecting PiecesI bough natural wood that were already stuck together, it reminded me of a small raft floating in the middle of unknown sea looking for it's shore. I painted the wood with black organic paint I then used paper mache technique to create earth which I later painted blue and green to represent earth and all the continents. Lastly I picked suitable trash that I stuck together with wire.

Work
The first thing I did was paint the wood with organic black paint, I wanted to represent space. The next step was to taking a balloon and paper mache it, I made my own glue with flour and water then did 3 layers of newspaper. After it was dried I painted the newspaper first blue and then added the green continents, this piece representing our earth. Then I popped the balloon. Lastly I put the trash inside the Earth and next to it, to make it seem as if the trash was poring out of the Earth into the galaxy. Showing how pollution is taking over our world.

Meaning behind my piece
With this project I wanted to raise awareness about one of the major problems that is happening right now to the world, pollution. Pollution hurts everyone, kills animals, destroys the environment and causes a variety of diseases to humans. One of them being the chronic respiratory disease. In 1975 the National Academy of Science estimated that ocean based sources, such as cruise ships and cargo ships had dumped into waters 14 billion pounds of garbage. Every year over 100,000 sea mammals and 1 million seabirds are killed because of pollution. People that live in areas that have high levels of air pollutants have a 20% higher risk of death from lung cancer then people who live in a less polluted areas. We as humans should work together to help solve this enormous problem. There should be more doing then talking. More people should get involved. The issue of pollution should be mentioned all around the world especially in schools. Bringing awareness of what is happening to our wold. Speaking about the destruction that is occurring now to our Earth and how we are thoughtlessly destroying it. We need to look at what we can do to help earth so future generations will be proud of our action to save our earth.
Inspiration
The artist who inspired me for this project is Pam Longobardi. Her work is exhibited in the US, Italy, Poland, China, Japan, Finland, and many other places. Her main theme of her art is the psychological relationship of humans to nature and the physical world. She often uses in her art work chemical patination, magnetism, mirror reflection, after-image and lights-sensitive. The particular piece that inspired me was "Dark and Plentiful Bounty".
